Real Help for Families Coping with Cancer. Osceola Cancer Center is committed to providing not only the highest quality of care for the body, but also for the heart, soul and family of the cancer patient. We understand that a cancer diagnosis affects every part of a family - patient, partner, children, parents, loved ones, and friends.
Judy Shell, RN, PhD, our Medical Family Therapist is a professional specializing in the emotional, spiritual and relational effects of illness. She has worked with cancer patients, their families and physicians for years as an Oncology Nurse Specialist, and more recently as a Medical Family Therapist. Her work is guided by values that motivate her to care compassionately for individuals and families, to respect their experiences and perspectives, and to seek out their strength.
Common concerns for cancer patients include:
• Anxiety, fear, sadness, and depression
• Fatigue
• Conflict or avoidance in relationships
• Sexuality
• Inner resources and spirituality
• Parenting - how to talk to and comfort children
Research has shown that patients who receive psychosocial support for their concerns during cancer treatments report a significant reduction in suffering, an increase in hope, and improvement in meaningful relationships and a longer life span.
Having her practice located at Osceola Cancer Center, Judy Shell serves the communities of greater Osceola County, working along with physicians and other health care providers. Her aim is to be a member of the healing team of providers working in concert toward the goal of health and wellness . . . body, mind and spirit.
Most services are covered by insurance. If not, a fee for service may be arranged.
